DAVID NORTHRUP-OAK RIDGE BOYS-PARAMOUNT CENTER-ST. CLOUD, MINNESOTA-BEIER 1.5 STEEL--6.5 X 14...

Drumming legend, and one of Nashville's all-time greats-David Northrup, is on the road again with the Oak Ridge Boys on a tour that is non-stop. They continue to entertain audiences everywhere, and are in huge demand as a live act. And if you have seen them recently, you will understand why.

One of his main drums for live shows with them is his 1.5 Steel--6.5 x 14 with Angel Hoops. He has been using that drum for quite some time with them, and in numerous sessions. He also used his 1.5 Steel--4 x 15 on the Oak Ridge Boys Celebrate Christmas record that was released late 2016, and has a 1.5 Steel--6.5 x 15 on the tour with him as well.

These pics are from last week at the Paramount Center For The Arts in St. Cloud, Minnesota on the tour. I will be seeing them later this Summer, and David will be using another size of the 1.5 Steel Series which I think is going to go over very well.

Thanks David. Sorry to miss your call the other day! Great to touch base by email though....Glad everything is going great......

THEODORE BROWN-LIVE DATE-TCU PERFORMANCE ART THEATRE-SASKATOON, CANADA-BEIER 1.5 STEEL--8 X 15...

Theodore Brown was out live last week at the TCU Performance Art Theatre in Saskatoon with his Beier 15 Steel--8 x 15. He is a long time professional with years of touring experience and studio work, and is a die-hard enthusiast for anything with drums. It is always interesting to see what he is up to configuration-wise, and I am always delighted to see him with one of his main drums....His Beier 1.5 Steel--8 x 15.

As he said in his post with these images......"Only the beginning...." That type of thinking in drummers is the mark of all great drummers....All of them. It doesn't matter whether your playing in the corner of a small Cafe or in a Stadium....This train of thought is what creates true music~

Thank You Theodore Brown....

GORD BAMFORD'S CHAD MELCHERT-NEW GRETSCH BROADKASTER KIT-BEIER 1.5 STEEL--6.5 X 14....

Gretsch Drums have some of the most loyal and enthusiastic players in the industry today it seems. Chad Melchert is no exception. He just received his new Broadkaster kit, is a part of Gretsch's International Roster, and he could not be happier. It must be said though....They are extremely fortunate to have him as an Artist as well.

Chad uses two snare drums as his main in the studio & live: The 1.5 Steel--4 x 15 & 1.5 Steel--6.5 x 14. Both drums are in constant non-stop use, and there are a number of upcoming releases which I am really looking forward to.

Please check live dates for Gord Bamford to see Chad live, or follow his Facebook page. (Links below...)

Thank You Chad! Your support and use of my gear is incredibly valued here.....

GREG MARRA ICONOCLAST PODCAST WITH MIKE HANSEN-BEIER 1.5 STEEL--5.5 X 15....

Guitar virtuoso, Greg Marra, just completed Episode 13 of his new Iconoclast Podcast. This one was with Mike Hansen, and was excellent from start to finish.

He has used the 1.5 Steel--5.5 x 15 extensively live as his go-to, and in the studio as well-including the last two releases from Plenty Heavy. Mike is also the current drummer for Hurricane, Bouillet, and has also played with George Lynch, Steve Vai & Paula Abdul to name a few.

Many Thanks Mike for discussing your 1.5 Steel--5.5 x 15 in this episode, and Greg.....You are doing an awesome job with your new podcast. Looking forward to future episodes.....

EDDIE BAYERS-NEW MOVIE AND SOUNDTRACK-WHEELER-BEIER 1.5 STEEL--5.5 X 14....

One of the all-time greats in the music industry, Eddie Bayers, is in the new movie Wheeler. He also used his 1.5 Steel--5.5 x 14 for the songs he did for the soundtrack. Link below for the video of  "Pour Me Out Of This Town". I love this tune, and the way Eddie used the drum on it. It is just simply perfect....

I just ordered my copies of the DVD & CD and will update this when I get them. THANK YOU Again For Everything Eddie.

KEITH ZEBROSKI-LIVE TONIGHT WITH MIRANDA LAMBERT-HIGHWAY VAGABOND TOUR-BEIER 1.5 STEEL--5.5 X 14, 6.5 X 14 & 7.5 X 14...

Hitting the road here soon to catch Keith Zebroski live on Miranda Lambert's Highway Vagabond Tour. He will be firing up his 1.5 Steel--7.5 x 14 which is a new size here at Beier Drums. This drum is #2 in production.

Keith will also have his 1.5 Steel--5.x 14 & 6.5 x 14 on this tour. Those drums have seen a lot of use with the 1.5 Steel--6.5 x 14 being used on the later part of Kenny Chesney's Spread The Love Tour, and the 1.5 Steel--5.5 x 14 on late night television and live performances.

He is an incredible drummer, and an all-around good guy. This is going to be a lot of fun. Will certainly update this in the Latest News this week....

BRAD ELVIS OF THE HANDCUFFS & THE ROMANTICS-BENEFIT SHOW IN PEORIA-BEIER 1.5 STEEL--6.5 X 14....

Brad Elvis (The Handcuffs, The Romantics) recently performed at a Tribute/Benefit show in Peoria, Illinois where he grew up, and started playing drums. The show was dedicated to a long time musician friend of his-Bob "Whale" Miller, and was at the Limelight Eventplex.

He had along his 1.5 Steel--6.5 x 14 in Gloss White. That is one of four which he has, and has used his 1.5 Steel--5.5 x 14 & 5.5 x 15 live with The Handcuffs and The Romantics as well. Brad is a drummer who carries widespread & incredible respect in the drum community. He is also someone who took time out for me from the first time I met him at a show in Milwaukee. We went down to see The Handcuffs play in a club in Milwaukee which was quite some time ago now. I had one of my drums with me, and was having trouble tuning it....Just could not get it right. I asked him when he was putting his gear away if he had a minute, and he said he said he would when he was done. I think it probably took him about 3 minutes to get that drum right. I had been at it for about an hour, and was coming down to the minute. The guy really saved me....

He also has one of the most unique and entertaining styles in drumming. I always say he is a cross of Keith Moon & Ginger Baker, and that is undeniable when you see him play live. But most importantly...His style is all his own, and completely unique. Every great drummer has their influences, and those two are several of his. But all great players, without exception, develop their own deal, and evolve and stay with it. I have sent messages to drummers on a number of occasions that I know will be at a show, or on the bill where he is playing to check him out. It is just something you don't want to miss.

Great hearing from you as always Brad....Thank You for everything. Huge Thank You going out to Tim Lindenbaum for the below shot of Brad at the benefit. I really appreciate you allowing use of this image...It is awesome.

MIKE DAWSON IN THE STUDIO IN NEW YORK-UPCOMING RELEASE FROM DAYAN-BEIER 1.5 STEEL--5.5 X 15....

Mike Dawson was in New York this week working on tracks for an upcoming record from electronic artist Dayan. He had his 1.5 Steel--5.5 x 15 with him which will be on the new release, and this record is something I have really been looking forward to for some time now. Links below to the clips of Mike in the studio...They are a total knockout from start to finish. He completely defined this drum with these. Links below for two clips.

Thank You Mike Dawson....

BORIS BLACKWOOD-LIVE IN EDMONTON ALBERTA-BEIER 1.5 STEEL--8 X 13....

It has been a brief time since Boris Blackwood has had his 1.5 Steel--8 x 13, and the drum is seeing a lot of use live. This drum, as noted previously here, is a one-off.....And is in the exact right place with the right player.

He had the drum out with one of the number of bands that he plays with: Jelly Bean. A friend of his commented after the show about the drum, and a member of the bar staff came over to check it out as well at the end of the evening and was impressed with the drum. As well, when someone is impressed with a drum, that is a direct reflection of the musician playing it & they way they tune-ALWAYS!

You can also find Boris at the Long & McQuade store in downtown Edmonton. Long & McQuade is a distributor of Beier Drums throughout Canada, and is one the most professional organizations in this entire industry.  Thanks Again Boris....Looking forward to staying in touch.....

MICHAEL FOSTERS KIT & SOLO VIDEO-FIREHOUSE SHOW AT THE BEACON THEATRE-BEIER 1.5 STEEL--6.5 X 14....

It was truly something last week for me when Michael Foster used his 1.5 Steel--6.5 x 14 for a sold-out Firehouse show at the Beacon Theatre in Hopewell, Virginia. He also did a video tour of his kit before the show, and have a great clip of his solo as well. (See links below)

As I have mentioned a number of times in the Latest News here: Firehouse as a band, and Michael Foster as a drummer have always been some of my all-time favorites. They are an incredible band, & are some of the nicest guy's to ever hit the road. Thank You Michael for everything.....See you all soon~

MIKE HANSEN LIVE TONIGHT-WHISKY A GO-GO-ULTIMATE JAM NIGHT-MUSIC OF BLACK SABBATH-

Mike Hansen (Hurricane, George Lynch, Pointer Sisters, Steve Vai, Paul Gilbert, Bouillet) will be one of the guests at the Ultimate Jam Night tonight in Hollywood at the Whisky A Go-Go. Tonight is the Music Of Black Sabbath, and Mike will most assuredly play this music perfectly. Looking over the list of talent, which is lengthy and is a Who's-Who....It should be a great show.

I am lucky I live where I do, everyone seems to come through here so I can see them live. So often I find though I am disappointed I cannot attend something....This is one of them. Mike is a long-time player of Beier Drums, and has used a 1.5 Steel--5.5 x 15 as his go-to from the day he started with it. Looking forward to seeing him live again soon at a Midwest show....

NEW VAIN RECORD-TOMMY RICKARD-BEIER 1.5 STEEL--5.5 X 14....

The new and long awaited record from fans of Vain is finished, and is available for purchase. Tommy Rickard used his 1.5 Steel--5.5 x 14 on this entire record, with the exception of two tracks. I ordered my copy, and should have it in several weeks and will update as always.

Tommy also has numerous projects in the works including filming a spot for television, & a new record from Orchid. Both of these he will be using his 1.5 Steel--5.5 x 14. Summer of 2017 will bring him back to Europe for live dates as well with a 1.5 Steel--4 x 15.

Link below for details on the new Vain record. Thanks Tommy....Great talking this week.....

CHAD MELCHERT-LIVE AT RANCHMAN'S-CALGARY-ALBERTA-VINTAGE GRETSCH KIT & HIS BEIER 1.5 STEEL--6.5 X 14....

Canada's Finest.....Chad Melchert was out playing live last week with his vintage Gretsch kit. The kit truly is stunning (26" Bass Drum!), and to have his 1.5 Steel--6.5 x 14 included for this show in Calgary at Ranchman's with this kit....Was really something special here. In early Summer...Chad will be firing up another drum from Beier Drums here. More on that later, but this can be said now: It is going to be a lot of fun seeing him play this drum. Check out the link below for Gord Bamford's site for tour dates with Chad.

Thank You Brother....

JARRED POPE UPDATE..THE TOM KIEFER BAND....

It is no surprise that one of Nashville's great players, Jarred Pope, (Latest News 1/24), just landed the seat for the Tom Kiefer Band last week. Amidst all of his recent live and studio work with Damon Johnson, Aerosmith's Buck Johnson, and upcoming live dates with Gene Simmons....Jarred is going to be one extremely busy player.

He currently uses a 1.5 Steel--6.5 x 15, & that is a drum he is absolutely in love with. He also has used a 1.5 Steel--6.5 x 14 live and recorded a live soon-to-be-released record with Damon Johnson with that drum, and performed live with Thompson Square with a 1.5 Steel--5.5 x 14.

As a long time fan of Cinderella and Tom Kiefer...This was great news here. Tom's solo band comes around to this area pretty frequently, and this will give me a chance to catch Jarred live again. Last Summer when he shied around was just the greatest time.

Congratulations Jarred.....See you soon!

VIDEO-HIGHLAND LIVE AT THE REGENT THEATER IN L.A.-MICHAEL SEMERDJIAN-BEIER 1.5 STEEL--7.5 X 15...

Progressive Death Metal artists, Highland, performed live at The Regent Theater in Los Angeles last Friday night. This was also the first night that Michael Semerdjian (Latest News 2/17) had his new 1.5 Steel--7.5 x 15 out live.

Michael mentioned to me he was skeptical of how a 15" drum would fit in with his playing and set-up. Subsequently he mentioned to me "It works, it fits, and it's classy...". Below are some more of his comments on this drum.

Gotta tell you Michael....You guys really impressed me. This band is so tight, so rehearsed....Your set was stellar. Congrats to all of you on that....Highland is a great band from A-Z, and I really hope you guys shy around the Midwest sometime. It would be great to see you live. Looking forward to all of the updates on the band, and your experience with your 1.5 Steel--7.5 x 15....

"The tuning range if this drum is HUGE. It cuts & cracks, and sounds fat & full at high tuning's even though it is a Steel shelled drum...."

Michael Semerdjian-Highland

SCOTT THOMPSON LIVE AT THE WILDHORSE SALOON WITH LARRY FRICK-BEIER 1.5 STEEL--4 X 15.....

Scott Thompson (Latest News-1/30) was back home from the road with Pure Prairie League last weekend, and was playing live with Larry Frick at the Wildhorse Saloon. He was using his new 1.5 Steel--4 x 15 for the night, and according to Scott....That went over great.

The 1.5 Steel--5.5 x 14 has been Scott's main since the day he started with it, and with the addition of the 1.5 Steel--4 x 15....There is no doubt both drums will see a ton of use with him. Thanks Again Scott...!

"James Beier....I'm in love again. The 4 x 15 is amazing. You are a master sir. Thanks Mark Beckett for your design inspiration..."

Scott Thompson

SAM LUMSDEN IN SCOTLAND-NEW DRUM COVER-BEIER 1.5 STEEL--5.5 X 14.....

As from Day 1 of knowing Sam Lumsden, he continues to show why he is one of the most diversely talented players, educators, and live performers in Scotland. His most recent clip & cover of Physical Edication by Animals As Leaders illustrates this perfectly.

Sam used his main-The 1.5 Steel--5.5 x 14 on this, & has for virtually all of his material. He has done numerous video clips with that drum, and his 1.5 Steel--5.5 x 15. There are also several excellent clips in the Audio section of this site with each drum that he did. He is also a full-time educator and runs First Class Drums in Inverness, and performs live regularly.

He is yet another player who uses Aquarian Heads on my drums. I used a lot of Aquarian Heads here this last year, and will most likely use even more in 2017. Chris Brady mentioned to me in conversation the number of players that are using their heads on my drums. That is a testament to a company that is doing a great job.

Thank You Sam.....As always, we will be in touch.....

DON BREWER-BEIER 1.5 STEEL--5.5 x 14 & 6.5 x 14-GRAND FUNK RAILROAD EARLY FOOTAGE-WERE AN AMERICAN BAND-

Michael Foster of Firehouse recently posted a clip from Grand Funk Railroad from 1973, and simply had to make note of this. (First link below is to this clip)

I was extremely fortunate to have spent some time with Don Brewer. He is arguably one of the most influential drummers in Rock....Ever. No matter who you talk to or where, no matter what genre of music...His drumming and influence is staggering. He was an amazing player, performer, and singer in the early day's, and today he is as great he has always been. You hear people say about concerts: "Close your eye's and it is 1973 again...". That is a Grand Funk Railroad show with Don Brewer now.

Don used a 1.5 Steel--5.5 x 14 live, and subsequently used a 1.5 Steel--6.5 x 14 on a Grand Funk Tour. Seeing him play through their show, especially to Footstompin Music, is, and always will be one of my great musical memories. It was also a big surprise to get a statement from him for my site, a sample of the intro for "Were An American Band" on his 1.5 Steel--6.5 x 14, and a statement as well from Glenn Preston their FOH engineer. (Friends section of this site for the statements, and Audio for the samples). The second link below is a clip of a live show with his 1.5 Steel--6.5 x 14 during his solo as well.

Thanks Michael for posting this. Michael posting this goes back to what I said above. Michael Foster is one of Rock's legends. And Don Brewer...Like with so many....Is one of his heroes and major influences. That....Say's it all!
