I had the remarkable opportunity to see John 5 and The Creatures live in Chicago recently, and Rodger Carter was great as always about sitting down and using one of my drums for the show. This show, it was the new Beier 1.5 Steel Snare--8 x 15. It was the first time out for the drum live or in the studio, and I was really happy he was in town to give the drum it's first spin. The drum has a massive sound of course, and naturally focuses on mids.
This tour was an instrumental tour & was a three piece with newcomer Ian Ross on Bass. It was an amazing and unbelievable display of talent. They are a super tight, powerful, and very rhythmic trio. It is easy to see why they kept adding dates as the tour progressed. I have always been a big fan of instrumental albums, shows, etc.., Gary Hoey has always been one of my favorites, and Bill Leverty's "Southern Exposure" with Michael Foster on drums in recent times are among my favorite records. You simply have to be that good to do it...And these musicians who do it are.
John 5 said they will be doing this again, and it is truly something you will want to see and hear. The crowd absolutely loved this show. I have some excellent video clips I will be posting in the next couple of weeks from the evening. Thanks Again Rodger for putting the 1.5 Steel--8 x 15 to the extreme test. It was awesome to see you again, and am very grateful to have had the opportunity to see John 5 and The Creatures live.
