Donn Deniston is a remarkable talent, is the most recorded drummer at Rooftop Recording in Grand Blanc, Michigan, and is someone I have always listened to very closely. I listen to everybody, I always have. I listen more than I talk, and I have learned so much from players over the years, it would be hard to calculate. Donn’s knowledge of gear, live performance, the retail side of this business, history, parts, etc….Virtually all aspects of this business, is truly amazing. I have had many lengthy conversations with him over the years, and I have learned a lot from him.
He and another player asked me years ago if I would make a 1.5 Steel–4 x 14. I declined at the time, it was not a drum that I wanted to put in the line up. Being the consummate pros that they are though, they just said to let them know if I ever do make a drum in that size. I said I would let them know, and did just that...Years later. (I will be following up with this article on the other and final 1.5 Steel–4 x 14 with a player currently out on the road).
I could not be happier that you have this drum Donn, and I really, really appreciate everything over the years. Your extensive recording and live performances with your 1.5 Steel–5.5 x 14 & 6.5 x 14 mean a lot to me. I'm glad there's another one in the mix, that you love it, and it is what you expected. I'm so looking forward to hearing your future work as always.
Thank You!
